WHat is sport psychology?

what is a mental performance consultant?

What do we do?

Sport psychology is a field that uses psychological knowledge and skills to optimize performance and enhance the well-being of individuals. The work in this field does not only benefit individuals, but this work also benefits recreational or competitive athletes in an individual or team setting. Sport psychology is not only for athletes; it is for everyone and anyone looking to make an improvement in their performance (at work, acting, singing, education, etc).

A mental performance consultant (MPC) is someone who has a master's degree in sport psychology. MPC's differ from other professionals who offer sport psychology services because an MPC's education is specifically in sport psychology and aiding athletes rather than just applying what they learned in another field of psychology to athletes they may work with. More and more often we see current psychologists or counselors trying to broaden their scope of practice with adding sport psychology services to their "menu" with having minimal to absolutely no training in sport psychology, which is unethical and illegitimate. When choosing to work with a sport psychology professional, make sure they are a MPC or equivalent and that they have a specialized education in the field of sport psychology for best results. Jamie earned her master's degree in sport psychology from John F. Kennedy University and also graduated with a sport specific degree for her undergraduate studies. Working in the best interest of the client includes being fully competent in the area(s) you offer for services, which comes from a specialized education in your professional field. Sport Support and our MPC strive to work in the clients' best interest by providing truly legitimate mental performance enhancement services based on a fully-fledged education in the field of sport psychology. Jamie is also a CMPC, meaning she is certified through AASP, which is the only internationally recognized credential in the field of sport psychology at this time.

Here at Sport Support we teach and apply mental skills and performance enhancement techniques with the mission to help you achieve your goals. Over the course of our professional relationship, we work together along the entire performance enhancement journey so you fully understand, build self-awareness, and are able to apply and gain benefit from this type of work. We offer sessions for individuals, small groups, teams and even workshops for athletes, parents and coaches. Having that mental edge is what sets you apart from your competition; so get the mental edge from Sport Support.

Who are your clients?

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

How quickly can we expect results?

Sport Support works with clients who are 11 years old and above from novice to elite skill levels. Clients could be anyone from competitive or recreational individuals or teams who are looking to take their performance to the next level, enhance specific areas of performance, rebound from injury, and so on. Some clients come to us without knowing where they can improve or how we can help; so if you are unsure, contact us today because we can help. Others sign up for our services knowing exactly where they need assistance and want to improve. Regardless of your reasoning for seeking out our services, please remember that all clients are expected to put in time, effort, and dedication to our work together just like they would in any other area of life in order to see results.

We do not accept insurance. Only licensed psychologists, therapists, or counselors can accept insurance by law. Mental Performance Consulting is not covered by insurance anywhere because what we do does not involve mental health or medical treatment. If pricing is deemed unaffordable, payment options can be discussed after your FREE 30-Minute Consultation.

Result timeliness varies based on many factors and will vary based on the client. We usually work with individual clients anywhere from 5 to 15 weeks on average and it all depends on the work the client is willing to put in to understand and apply what they are taught, how many performance enhancement topic areas they want to cover, and the overall receptiveness of the client. Clients are expected to practice this type of work just as they would their physical skills and in relation to that, drastic results may not be seen if the client does not put in the expected effort and practice of application.
